Yuk Fong Chin is North Borneo University College new Vice-Chancellor

Prof. Fred Yuk Fong Chin has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of North Borneo University College, Malaysia.

Pro-Chancellor and President, Prof. Sr. Mohaizi Bin Mohamad said “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Prof. Fred Chin as our new Vice-Chancellor.  He has an international reputation of academic excellence and has held major strategic and leadership roles in higher education for past 17 years, most recently at Jesselton College.”

Prof. Chin has vast knowledge on accounting, business administration, engineering and law, with solid managerial and teaching experiences covering multiple areas of tertiary education.  In addition, Prof. Chin serves as an advisor on various government boards and committees; currently, he is the private secretary and advisor to YAM Tengku Dato’Muhammad Ibni Almarhum Sultan Sir Abu Bakar Negeri Pahang Darul Makmur.  He is also an advisor to Institution of Transport and Logistics Management and to Geri-Paediatric Health Care Association, both in Hong Kong.

As a Chartered Engineer of Engineering Council of United Kingdom, Prof. Chin serves as Chairperson of Malaysia Region for Society of Operations Engineers, UK. He was also the former President of Institute of Commercial & Industrial Accountants, Malaysia and former Ambassador of Institution of Public Accountants, Australia.

North Borneo University College is a nationally accredited higher institution of learning with several faculties, including business, earth sciences, hospitality & tourism, security management and enforcement and engineering.

The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Chin said, “It is a great honour and privilege to be selected as the 3rd Vice-Chancellor of North Borneo University College. Our Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Business Administration, Master in Management (MIM) and Master of Science (MSc) in Security & Enforcement will be fully accredited soon; therefore, we anticipate a whole series of new development in train, with many busy years ahead.”

In 2001, Prof. Chin founded the Pine Academy Group International, which consists of multiple higher education institutions.  As its Managing Director, he successfully rebranded Insitutite Prima Bestari into Jesselton College, leading it to achieve 5-star MyQuest ratings in 2016/2017.  Besides Jesselton College, he is supervising more than 10 learning centres in Asian region with a total enrolment of 1,200 students (ranging from Foundation to PhD) and dealing with over 4,000 alumni.

The former CEO of Jesselton College said, “I have tremendous respect for North Borneo University College because it has a desirable reputation for tertiary education and it plays a major role in the social and cultural development, particularly in Sabah. I am very much looking forward to committing my energy to working with all the staff to make it a world-class university with global impact.”

With his expertise in establishing academic linkages with local institutions and those overseas, Prof. Chin successfully negotiated an MOU with China’s Wuhan Business University during the first week of his appointment.  

With this appointment, Prof. Fred will be the youngest Vice-Chancellor ever been appointed in Malaysia.
